SUBJECT
For many, the ornamented masks and wooden statuettes from Belgian Congo have a mysterious appeal. Their wonderful, extraordinary shapes and expressions have inspired the Belgian artist Paul Haesaerts to make this film. He submerges his viewers with statues, masks and photographs from Central Africa. Trying to lay down the artistic world of the African people by exploring the arts and crafts of various Central African tribes, the film represents a typical view on African art and culture during the 1950s.
