The collection which did not exist

In June 2011, Museum of Modern Art acquired 223 works of the collection of the Belgian couple Herman and Nicole Daled. This conceptual European and American collection was made between 1966 and 1978. Herman Daled is a collector of special art. His collection, acquired in 2011 by the New York Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), includes masterpieces of the conceptual movement that emerged in the 1960s. It contains the most important collection of works by Marcel Broodthaers as well as historical pieces by Daniel Buren, Niele Toroni, Dan Graham, Sol LeWitt and others. The Daled collection is one of the largest acquisitions in the history of the Museum, says the Director of the prestigious New York institution. In a trip from Brussels to New York the Belgian collector looks back at his past, and that of an aesthetic and philosophic movement that marked the second half of the 20th century. Exploring this movement, our film has chosen to hold up a mirror between a man and a philosophy with the artist Daniel Buren, artist Jacques Charlier, Christophe Cherix (MoMA, NY), Chris Dercon (Tate Modern, London), Dirk Snauwaert (Wiels, Brussels), Nicole Daled-Verstraeten and Herman Daled.
