Sunny Spells
This unique visual feast is a docu-travelogue about the Netherlands. The director Ruud Monster took great care to provide his audience with a visual feel of life in the low-lands by superbly filming (35mm) actual situations and events in his native Netherlands, and then intercut these images with other, contrived images, which the original footage seemed to evoke. The extraordinary camera-work is a spectacle in which you can get carried away as at a concert. If you want learn about the Netherlands, Just sit back, relax and enjoy the show.

There is a saying “God created the world, but the Dutch created the Netherlands. As you can see in Sunny Spells, a remarkable aspect of the Netherlands is the flatness of the country. About half of its surface area is less than 1 metre above sea level, and large parts of it are actually below sea level (See map showing these areas). A substantial part of the Netherlands, for example, all of Flevoland (the largest man-made island in the world) and large parts of Holland, has been reclaimed from the sea.
