Fresh delta
This documentary deals with the contrasts between man and nature in the National Park and Wetland Biesbosch (The Netherlands).
The Bieschbos is a National Park and internationally recognized Waterland that lies between the cities of Rotterdam and Breda.
The rivers Maas and Rhine both flow through the Biesbosch delta.
After the great flooding of 1953 ‘The Delta plan’ was developed in order to protect The Netherlands from the sea. In 1970, within the framework of that plan, any open connection between the Biesbosch and the sea was practically closed. Ebb and flow almost disappeared. Innumerable water-sport enthusiasts now overrun the tamed delta. Large reservoirs have emerged in the heart of the Biesbosch in order to ensure the drinking-water supplies of Rotterdam.
The film takes us through the changing seasons in the Biesbosch, meeting a variety of we people who all express, sincerely, their intentions regarding the Biesbosch. We follow them: on quiet creeks and busy beaches. We criss-cross the whole Biesbosch searching for the communion between man and nature.
