A moving, poignant story, One Man Village is Lebanese director Simon El Habres documentary on the life of his uncle, farmer Semaan El Habre. As the only remaining inhabitant of Ain El Hazaroun, a small village in Lebanon, Semaan stubbornly remains, while others fled the besieged village during the the civil war, and have failed to return. El Habre's moving and brilliantly shot film highlights the impact the countrys bitter in-fighting has had on countless similar villages and towns, which were left deserted and ruined.
Political Relevance
The villagers of Ain El Hazaroun fled the village due to the armed conflict in the area. The Mountain War was a subconflict in the Lebanese civil war which occurred at the mountainous Chouf District . The main actors in the civil war were the Palestine Liberation Organisation, the Progressive Socialist Party and the Lebanese Front. The Lebanese Civil War was a result of the ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon.
