Purple Hearts by Broekhoven, Roel van

A photo series that the New York photographer Nina Berman: "Purple Hearts, back from Iraq" made of wounded US Iraq veterans gave rise to the making of this documentary. Documentary filmmaker Roel van Broekhoven crisscrossed the United States to look at the former soldiers. They all tell accurately what happened on the day they were injured. How they then came home, blind or without legs, how they villages around Alabama and Pittsburgh or Washington and LA have to get the war out of their head. Officially recognized as a "hero", with a "purple heart" on the uniform in the closet, most yearn for an army that can't use them anymore. The story that President Bush does not want to bring out.
