Cartoneros

Cartoneros is about the ongoing process of garbage recycling in Buenos Aires. The filmmaker follows the trash pickers who collect the garbage, through middlemen who separate the garbage in warehouses, to executives in large corporate mills.

Economic Interest

Most of the cartoneros used to have a real job but because of the economic crisis they lost their job and became cartoneros. Garbage is a big source of employment in Buenos Aires and became a multimillion dollar industry after Argentinas economic collapse in 1999.
