Breaking the spell
The WTO ministerial congress always receives massive attention from the anti capitalist movement. The protesters form the dynamic and energetic center of this documentary. During the 1999 WTO protests in Seattle, protesters were followed by their fellow protesters on camera, resulting in an abundancy of footage. The film captures the demonstrations as well as conversations with people who oppose to the status quo on many different levels. Although there is one shared goal, the many protestors clearly support different tactics in order to reach it.
Economic Interest
The World Trade Organization, replacing the General Agreements on Tariffs and Trade, intends to supervise and liberalize international trade. On November 30 th, The World Trade Organization ministerial conference of 1999 was followed worldwide. This was not only because of the trade negotiations, but also because of the huge WTO protest activity in Seattle near the Washington State Convention and Trade Centre. Over 50,000 attended to N30, the big protest against economic globalization and capitalism, including anti globalization movements, the black block and Eugene anarchists.
