Andre Hazes, zij gelooft in mij

This award winning documentary film by John Appel gives a complete and insightful view of of the singer Andre Hazes, and his life as well on stage as off stage. Hazes, born and raised in Amsterdam, was one of the most well known artists singing the typically Dutch genre levenslied. With his songs about love, family, loneliness and alcohol, Hazes found a way to the heart of almost everyone. Even though he sadly passed away in 2004, even till today people still know the lyrics by heart and sing along with the songs in the Dutch bars.

The documentary gives a good impression of who this beloved Dutch singer really was. Andre Hazes is portrayed as a cheerful bon vivant, but at times, the fame and excitement was more than he could handle. In this film he is often shown struggling, trying to be an artist as well as a husband and father. Also, alcohol abuse and a bad health were reasons for family and fans to worry, and for the media to criticize him.
