20 Days that shook Tehran
This film by Ali Razi offers an unique view on the Iranian presidential campaign that preceded the contested re-election of president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during June 2009. In this documentary film, Iranians candidly raise questions about the election, democracy, politics and share their hopes and fears. For an Iranian theatre group, the political campaign and the heated discussions between people on the street are the inspiration for a play.
Political Relevance
Irans tenth presidential election was held in 2009, with incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad running against three challengers. Ahmadinejad won the election with 62 percent of the votes. However, national and international concerns were expressed over alleged irregularities during the vote. Ahmadinejad became president of Iran after the contested elections of 2005.
